June Imray, The Torry Quine, is one of the most popular performers ever to encapsulate the humour of the North East of Scotland.

Brought up in Torry, on the south-east side of Aberdeen, June grew up in a community that, even within the city, is regarded as unique. Best known for its former fishing community, Torry has produced people with tremendous strength of character and, most of all, wonderful humour.

After graduating from the University of Aberdeen, June became the first BBC TV announcer with a Scottish accent. Not bad for a ‘wee Torry quine’!

She returned home to become one of the best known faces on Grampian Television and decided to celebrate her North East roots by writing and recording songs and poetry that reflected the special humour of the people she had grown-up with.

About The Torry Quine

The result was two albums and live performances to packed audiences throughout the North East. Those LP’s sold-out many years ago – but ‘The Best of The Torry Quine’ CD contains her most popular material, which will be instantly recognisable to thousands, and much loved by a new generation. Meanwhile, ‘The Best of The Torry Quine Book’ contains the words and lyrics to all 22 tracks on the CD, plus many more songs, poems and short stories.

By the way, June is the ‘tall one’ in the photo!
